(DG) Seminar: Go Where You Are Celebrated: Creating a production process and rehearsal room with honesty, inclusion and radical grace with Tamanya GarzaSaturday, August 15th, 2020 on (DG) Zoom
This workshop will occur on Saturday, August 15th from Noon-5:15pm EST and is open to BIPOC directors only. It will include a candid discussion about the current state of art-making and theatre in Philadelphia, a workshop to build your production process from a place of education, compassion and intersectionality, and a list of action-items for creating theatre going forward. The workshop will focus on building a stronger community through honesty and a customized list of action-items for everyone who attends to strengthen their practice and understand their privilege going forward. This will be a highly collaborative class and will combine practices that are anti-racist, parent-friendly, welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community, disability-friendly, thoughtful and include restorative justice techniques. The final hour of the workshop, 4:15pm-5:15pm EST, is open to all, BIPOC and white directors for a wrap up. Attendees will also receive a curated reading list to continue to grow their practice in the future. 10 seats are open for the first part of the workshop and then an additional 10 seats are open for the second part of the workshop. Open to all. |

A long-form digital seminar and workshop designed for six Tier 3 (DG) members and mid-career directors to engage with a practical and systematic approach to analyzing text and working with exactitude. This class will be led by theatre director and Drexel University professor Bill Fennelly, and will include one-on-one work with actors. 6 Seats for Participating Directors. 4 Seats for Observing Directors. |
(DG) Workshop: Director-Actor Collaboration Workshop with Michael GoldfriedSaturday, May 30th – Sunday, May 31st, 2020 on Zoom
This online directing intensive offers a supportive and comprehensive deep-dive into the director/actor relationship, focusing on practical directing tools for getting great performances from actors. Utilizing “Angels in America” as the text, each participant in the workshop will have the opportunity to direct professional actors in a scene, and receive feedback and practical instruction from director and teacher Michael Goldfried, a highly sought-after professor of directing in New York. Gain new skills in responding to text and translating directorial choices into a dynamic, collaborative approach. The weekend culminates in a scene showing where participants share their new work in a safe environment of fellow directors. 6 Seats for Participating Directors. 4 Seats for Observing Directors. |
