Let’s Grow (DG)’s Future: Announcing (DG)’s Next Chapter in Leadership
A Letter from Sisi Wright
Let’s Grow (DG)’s Future: Announcing (DG)’s Next Chapter in Leadership
Warm greetings, (DG) Community!
This is Sisi Wright, Director of Membership and Engagement, and I am excited to share that I will be stepping into the role of Executive Director at (DG) beginning in March 2025.
I still remember the first time I met Jill Harrison in 2017, when I was a graduate student at Villanova University. We shared coffee and a conversation that would deeply influence my artistic journey. Jill shared the story of Directors Gathering (DG) and the vision that started it all: the idea of creating a space where directors - who are so often siloed and alone - could gather, share, and collaborate. It was at that moment that I felt something click inside me. Her passion, her vision, and her commitment to support directors resonated deeply with my own journey as a theatre maker. It was meant to be.
Theatre is a powerful art form that connects people, and directors often serve as the bridge, bringing together artists, producers, and audiences. By nurturing community among directors, (DG) creates a powerful ripple effect that extends beyond the stage, fostering connections and building relationships that reach into broader communities, both within and outside of theatre.
I’ve always been fascinated by systems—the ways in which parts work together, and sometimes, fall apart or out of sync. In fact, when I first started college, I was enrolled in the engineering school at the University of Virginia, until I took a theatre class that changed everything for me. In my mind, theatre is technology--a beautiful, complex system of applying knowledge to solve a problem. It’s also where directors play a key role in connecting the dots, creating vision, and facilitating collaboration.
As I am preparing to step into the role of Executive Director, I am reflecting on the legacy Jill has created. (DG) was designed to disrupt the isolation many directors experience, countering this feeling by fostering connection and growth. This community is strengthened on the belief that there is enough for all of us, and that when we generously share our resources and talents, we all grow.
But we are at a crossroads. The time has come to turn the metaphorical page and move (DG) to its next chapter. To push forward into a future that continues to build on the foundation Jill and many collaborators have laid.
This is the exciting part of the journey, where we envision a future rich with new opportunities for growth and innovation. We are exploring new programming ideas—such as expanding our digital conversations, exploring innovative and collaborative approaches to mentorship, and deepening our collaborations with other theatre makers and institutions—that will empower our community to engage more fully and create new pathways for connection and development. These possibilities, along with our ongoing commitment to fostering relationships and resources for directors, are just the beginning of what lies ahead.
In 2025, we are planning to return to the (DG) Convening—a joyful, enriching experience that will bring theatre directors together in Philadelphia from across the country. Imagine a room full of passionate, creative artists, all working together to foster meaningful relationships and collaboration.
We are not just building programs; we are creating a thriving community that will enable directors to flourish, collaborate and lead in new and innovative ways. This is the vision I want to bring to life, and I am excited to have you join me in bringing it to fruition!
But to make this vision a reality, we need resources—resources to support the (DG) team, our programs, and our shared vision. This is where you come in.
Here's how you can make an immediate impact:
Every gift, every moment of support, and every partnership will help us continue to grow and expand (DG) into a truly sustainable and equitable force for theatre directors across the country. Your participation–today–will make a significant difference as we lay the foundation for (DG)’s future.
I believe deeply in the power of theatre to build community. This is why I am so passionate about what (DG) offers—a space where we come together, celebrate our craft, and create a better future for all theatre makers.
So, let’s grow (DG)’s future. Let’s build a community that stands together in abundance. Let’s make sure that every director, every theatre maker, and every artist who engages with us feels not only supported but inspired.
Please make a gift, pledge your future support, volunteer, or champion our efforts by spreading the word today, to help us make this vision a reality.
Thank you for your continued support, your belief in the power of community, and for being part of this exciting next chapter in (DG)’s journey. Together, we will do incredible things.
With gratitude,
Sisi Wright

Press release of (DG) Leadership Transition
Directors Gathering Celebrates 10th Anniversary and Welcomes New Leadership
Contact: Brey Ann Barrett | [email protected]
Directors Gathering (DG), a pioneering organization dedicated to fostering a vibrant community for theatre directors, marks its 10th anniversary with a celebration of its founder, Jill Harrison, and a warm welcome to its new leader, Sisi Wright.
A Decade of Building Community and Empowering Directors
Over the past decade, DG has cultivated a thriving network for theatre directors across the country. From its humble beginnings in Philadelphia, DG has empowered over 300 directors by providing resources for skill development, mentorship opportunities with established artists, and connections with each other and producing organizations.
DG has hosted a multitude of impactful events and workshops, fostering collaboration and nurturing artistic growth. In 2023, Directors Gathering hosted its most ambitious (DG) Convening to date in partnership with Swarthmore College, featuring Nataki Garrett, a visionary theatre leader, as the keynote speaker. The event featured programming for students on the Swarthmore College campus, while directors and collaborators participated virtually from across the United States. This hybrid approach focused on the universality of art-making and bridging the relationship between students and practicing directors. The convening underscored (DG)’s commitment to fostering connections and opportunities for directors at all stages of their careers. Jill Harrison's Legacy and Sisi Wright's Vision for the Future
Founding Executive Director Jill Harrison, who has played an instrumental role in DG's success, will be stepping down at the end of the year. Jill has served as Executive Director since founding the organization 10 years ago. Under her leadership, the organization has grown significantly and become a haven for theatre directors to build community. Directors Gathering served a unique role to many during the pandemic as a way for directors and collaborators to stay creatively connected through virtual programming.
As (DG) prepares for new leadership, Sisi Wright, currently the Director of Membership and Engagement, will guide the transition alongside Jill Harrison and a recently formed Transition Advisory Committee. Sisi will officially step into the role of Executive Director in March 2025.
“It has been an absolute honor gathering with and for theatre directors through Directors Gathering’s ongoing community over the past ten years,” says Jill Harrison. “My greatest hope when creating (DG) was to create a consistent hub where directors could be supported in both their personhood and profession without the pressures of our industry.” She continued, “As we continue to celebrate 10 years of (DG), and look to the future of the organization, we are so fortunate to have Sisi Wright taking the helm as interim Executive Director. Sisi is an extraordinary person and visionary leader who is deeply committed to thoughtfully and sustainably gathering (DG)’s community of directors.”
Sisi Wright expresses her gratitude to Jill and her enthusiasm for the future: “Jill Harrison’s visionary leadership has built Directors Gathering into a vibrant community that has uplifted and inspired theatre directors for a decade. As I guide this transition over the next few months, I’m energized by the opportunity to reanimate and reinvigorate this community, blending the familiar connections we cherish with fresh, new opportunities to collaborate and grow. I’m thrilled to lay the groundwork during this phase and, in the next few months, step fully into the role and bring this vision to life—unifying and empowering directors in bold, transformative ways.”
Launching the "Let's Grow DG's Future" Campaign
To ensure a smooth leadership transition and sustain ongoing programs, DG is launching "Let's Grow DG's Future," a crucial fundraising campaign. The campaign will raise funds to support onboarding and leadership development for Sisi, as well as sustain DG's vital programming. DG will continue to offer insightful programming and events for its members. “After many years of programming that centers on the humanity of directors and the importance of building an ecosystem for directors in theatre, I am so proud to have worked alongside Sisi. It is thrilling to hear Sisi’s visions for future collaborations, growing more partnerships, and a revamped convening,” shared Brey Ann Barrett, current Director of Programming.
